“Gift of the Shaper in the Wild,” is a series of articles intending to highlight the people who are the backbone of the success of Gift of the Shaper: my friends, and the people who were crazy enough to pick up my book. I couldn’t think of a better way of saying “thank you,” so this is my attempt at doing so. Check out last week’s profile here!
D.L.: For all the people out there in TV Land, Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Oh hey! My name is Andrea. I’m a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force, I’m 27 years old, and I grew up mostly in New Jersey. I’m currently a Farsi/Dari linguist, but a couple months ago I got the news that I was accepted for officer training school and undergraduate pilot training. In about a year I’ll be leaving to start that journey toward achieving my dream of flying for the US Air Force! [Editor’s note: I had to drag this out of her. It turns out that she’s actually very humble. She can FLY PLANES for God’s sake!]
D.L.: Ok. Going with the aircraft theme, you find yourself piloting a flight across the Atlantic in the year 1912, Earth, Dimension One. What three items have you brought for the trip and why?
A dog (is that an item?) [Editor: it is.], and my gun with ammo.
D.L.: What is your most vivid childhood memory?
In first grade I threw up all over my teacher’s desk and knocked over these cute little wooden penguins she had. Yeah, that.
D.L.: I can see why. Penguins are the worst. What are you most proud of? And don’t say puke penguins.
Earning my private pilot license.
D.L.: Your answer was way better. Thank you for being you. What is your favorite book, and why is it Gift of the Shaper?
Since we all know Gift of the Shaper is the greatest book of all time [Editor: emphasis mine], I’ll tell you about my second favorite book – Man’s Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl. If there’s a book that has impacted my outlook on life, it’s that one.
D.L.: IT WORKED! Ok. Thank you for that. Any other shout outs you want to give?
My dog Jack (up in puppy heaven), my fam, and my former flight chief who low key changed the entire course of my life (in a good way obvi).
D.L.: And finally, since I know you’ve been waiting for this one, what is your drink of choice?
The answer is Moscow Mule, duh. What can I say, I drink like a basic B.
D.L.: I don’t know what that means, but I’m told it’s hilarious.
