Audiobook update #1

Never fear, friends who can’t read good (and want to learn how to do other stuff good too), the audiobook is coming along slowly but surely!

You may already know that I finished recording the audio for Gift of the Shaper, doing all the narration myself — but what you may not know is that I’ve hired someone on to do the editing and post-production work to make the finished product. (Here is where I sheepishly admit that I tried to do the editing myself, but it lasted exactly 3 hours and a half of a chapter. I am not good at that kind of stuff).

I actually ended up finding him through Upwork.com, which is a great place to find freelancers to do almost any kind of creative thing you can imagine: editing, voice work, accounting, graphic design — just about anything you can dream up. Well, luckily I dreamt up someone who was good at audio post-production because there was no way that I was ever going to finish doing this myself.

The tall parts are where I’m yelling

To make a long story short, my editor is going through each of my recorded 56 chapters (plus a prologue) and making them sound like a REAL, ACTUAL AUDIO BOOK!

If you’re at all interested, here is a sample from one of the first chapters. It’s a 5 minute cut, but it will let you know exactly what kind of (a) audio quality, and (b) voice acting you can expect to hear from the finished product.

I’ll be posting updates each week in terms of progress, but suffice it to say that I’m VERY excited about what will eventually be the finished product.

Happy listening.

I’m glad that he chose to narrate the story personally, and I love that he chose that chapter to sample the audio book progress. Meeting the Kienari and engaging in that subsequent battle was a great scene.
